Hello and thank you for your interest in my Birth Prep Course to prepare you for a positive labor/birth experience! I only have room for 4-5 couples for each session, so this class will be extremely personalized for you! This is a three session birth prep course.
This class will cover a general overview of birth phases, exercises for your pregnancy to help baby be in a great position for birth, common interventions offered with their risks and benefits, tips for your partner to support you during labor, relaxation techniques, creating your birth plan, a brief explanation of what to expect during postpartum, and so much more!
Day 1:
-An overview of hospital vs. out-of-hospital birth options as well as watching positive birth videos in both locations
-Due date accuracy
-Tips on staying healthy and low risk during your pregnancy
-Chiropractic care & pelvic floor therapy benefits and recommendations
-Pregnancy exercises to help your baby be in a good position for birth INCLUDING Spinning Babies exercises
-Birth options including fetal monitoring types, cervical exams, induction vs. augmentation, and episiotomies vs. natural tears
-An overview of common newborn procedures done in the immediate postpartum
-An overview of common Labor and Delivery Drugs and their risks and benefits
-Benefits of abdominal breathing
-Braxton Hicks contractions vs. real labor contractions and how to tell if it's really labor
-When to go to your birthing location
-What to do if your water breaks
-How to time contractions
-Birth place tour questions
-Hospital packing checklist
-Assigning jobs/roles to the people attending your birth
-Relaxation Practice
Day 2:
-Vaginal exams: risks, benefits, and what is measured
-Activity to understand dilation and effacement
-Belly Mapping exercise: How to figure out your baby's position
-1st stage of Labor: Early Labor, Active Labor, Transition
-The Miles Circuit and positions to use during labor
-Review of Spinning Babies exercises and rebozo techniques for during labor
-Counter pressure demonstration
-How to encourage relaxation
-2nd stage of labor/pushing tips
-Review of episiotomy advantages, disadvantages, and how to reduce tearing
-3rd stage of labor
-APGAR scores
-Cord Clamping options and placental consumption/encapsulation information
-Cascade of Interventions activity
-Induction scenarios and activity
-Birth Plan Card Sort Activity
-Relaxation Practice
Day 3:
-Emergency childbirth
-Birth variations and complications
-C-section options and recovery
-Postpartum care including danger signs and information on postpartum depression
-Breastfeeding including: how your body makes milk, when to call your provider, your baby after birth, feeding patterns, making learning to breastfeeding easier, baby hunger cues, how to know your baby is getting enough milk, paced bottle feeding, storing pumped breastmilk, dietary information for the first 6 months of life, baby wearing, infant sleep and how to soothe your baby.

***Birth Experience Q&A: Hear birth stories from previous clients/birth students and ask them questions about their birth experience.
Session Dates:
The August Cohort is perfect for anyone due through October 2025 and the October Cohort is great for anyone due through January 2026. Both cohorts run from 9 am - 2 pm on all class dates with the possibility of running slightly over if everyone had many questions that day or to allow for a relaxation practice at the end of the class.
August Cohort: 8/2, 8/9, and 8/30 9
September/October Cohort: 9-27, 10/11, and 10/25
9 am - 2 pm each day

(NOTE: If a class must be canceled due to the instructor getting called to a birth, I will text each participant as soon as I go to the birth. Participants will be able to attend a future class date if the session is not already full OR we will reschedule for a date and time as soon as possible, provided there is availability at Empower Pelvic Health. I have also scheduled birth class at a client's home for a one-on-one birth class if Empower Pelvic Health is not available in the event we need to reschedule. Every effort will be made to ensure that you receive the full course content.)

What to Bring:
Since the building AC shuts off at 2 pm, we will work through lunch. Please bring a lunch, water, and any snacks you might need. You will also need to bring a towel/scarf, pillows for relaxation practice, and anything you might need for notetaking.
Payment Info:
The total cost for my birth prep course is $350. A $50 nonrefundable retainer is required to sign up. This retainer is waived if you hire me as your doula.
